Arlperre is the most significant country on Utopia Station, 300 kilometers north west of Alice Springs, NT.
Kathleen Kngale is a senior custodian of this country and her story is the bush plum. This bush plum thrives after the Sandover River floods out onto the plains. The various colours underlying the painting represent the different degrees of ripeness of the fruit, with purple being the most suitable colour for eating. The knowledge of when to harvest, how to select and how to consume this food source which is of major importance, and also to diet, as the plum is rich in vitamin C.
Kathleen's final flourish of a white dotted overlay across the canvas represents the sun dried leaves, seeds and husks of the Arlperre country. Kathleen Kngale is represented in major private collections as well as The National Gallery of Victoria.
