Freddie Timms (1946-2017) was a giant of East Kimberley Art. He was an esteemed painter who lent his time and name to strengthen art across the north of Australia. Timms was involved in developing the early relationship between Indigenous artists and the Australian art market that helped forge stronger and fairer links with galleries and dealers.
Timms' works are at times deeply political. Although some paintings find their inspiration in the ancestral Dreaming stories, many focus on the North Australian landscape's real history and topographical changes since colonisation.
Now considered one of the most senior Kimberley painters, Freddie Timms can be found in major collections all over the world.
