Eric Barney is a distinguished artist hailing from the Indulkana Community, where he continues to live and work.
Barney has been an integral part of Iwantja Arts since 2008, honing his craft under the guidance of revered senior artists Peter Mungkari, Alec Baker, and Kunmanara (Jimmy) Pompey. Through their mentorship, he has developed a profound mastery of painting techniques while maintaining a deep respect for cultural protocols. In addition to his own practice, Barney is a dedicated artsworker, providing invaluable support to his fellow artists and collaborating with the senior men on numerous projects.
Barney's artistic vision is characterized by the use of bold, vibrant colors that vividly evoke the striking landscapes of the APY Lands. His aerial perspectives capture the vastness and raw beauty of the desert terrain, from sun-bleached sandhills to the rugged bushland. His work is imbued with a dynamic energy and authenticity that celebrate the majesty of the land he calls home.
